Setting Expectations for Red Sox Fans
The Red Sox did not have the offseason most Red Sox fans were hoping for, but I would not say it was a complete failure. They added a lot of depth in their pitching staff with the acquisitions of Hirokazu Sawamura, Garrett Richards, and Adam Ottaviano. They also brought back some key guys like Eduardo Rodriguez, Matt Barnes, and Martin Perez. Overall, they are going to have an average to above average rotation if they could stay moderately healthy. They also added some good assets to the offensive and defensive side of the ball in Kiki Hernandez and Marwin Gonzalez, as they both can play multiple positions and Marwin can swing from both sides of the plate. The Red Sox also have Tristian Casas, Jeter Downs, and Tanner Houck in their farm system. Tanner specifically, showed a lot of promise last year and if Downs and Casas can produce, the Red Sox have some depth in their roster. With these acquisitions, potential, and having Alex Cora coming back, do I think they can make the playoffs? Maybe. Do I think they will exceed expectations? 100%.
